Proven Productivity: Simplifying Fastener Standards for the Space Industry
March 18, 2025
One of Bossard Aerospace’s customers approached us with the request to simplify and standardize a complex assembly of fasteners that involved multiple norms, materials, and suppliers.
The request began when a sales colleague flagged the issue: the customer was unhappy with the inconsistent components in their design. They provided us with detailed drawings, a part list, and specific requirements. Their parts included a mix of American inch (NAS) and metric (MS and LN) standards, with varying lengths and materials. The inconsistency was complicating sourcing and production, prompting their desire for a streamlined solution.
Our Approach
Upon receiving the drawings, our technical team analyzed the requirements and identified the marked issues. We proposed replacing 9 disparate components with parts adhering to a metric standard. This substantially ensured uniformity in material and reduced the need for multiple suppliers. After consulting with our availability team, we confirmed that the standardized parts could be reliably sourced and supplied.
The customer responded positively to our proposal, appreciating the simplicity and efficiency of the solution and placed an order with Bossard Aerospace to ensure a fast and effective supply chain operation.
Outcomes
By simplifying and standardizing the fasteners to a single norm, the customer will benefit significantly from:
- Streamlined sourcing from one manufacturer.
- Reduced complexity in supply chain management.
- A unified solution that integrates seamlessly into their assembly process.
This project shows how our engineering services go beyond product supply, offering tailored solutions that address real-world challenges. We’re proud to support our customers in their role to advance aerospace innovation.
